Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has made a flying start - and it has given Sunderland a 'massive lift'

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' takeover has ended the air of uncertainty at Sunderland - and the successful start under his ownership has given the club a 'massive lift'.

That's the view of assistant head coach Jamie McAllister, with the Black Cats currently on an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions since the Swiss billionaire heir took over last month.

That run has included the EFL Trophy final win, which saw the the club win at Wembley for the first time since 1973, and six wins in seven league games as Sunderland have climbed to the brink of the automatic promotion places.

Louis-Dreyfus' takeover revitalised the club at a time when its promotion credentials were being questioned, but now they are firmly in the race for a top two spot.

"I think it's massive for the fans, and for everyone at the club," said McAllister of the importance of a successful start under the new regime.

"It [the takeover situation] had been hanging over the club for a while, so to get that clarity over the ownership is good and Kyril has come in with a real focus and a real vision for what he wants to achieve here going forward.

"It gives everyone a massive lift - the fans, the staff, the players, even potential signings coming in.

"It's huge now that that issue has been put to bed and Kyril is in."

Sunderland's current ten-game unbeaten run started in the week leading up to the completion of Louis'-Dreyfus' takeover, and the Wearsiders can extend it further - and potentially go second in the table, depending how Peterborough fare at Rochdale - when promotion rivals Lincoln City visit the Stadium of Light tomorrow.

Louis-Dreyfus attended Sunderland's defeat at Shrewsbury Town on February 9, and has been at every game since.
