Free agency is right around the corner in the NBA and that mean rumors will start flying all over the place. One move by free agent to be Kyrie Irving just adds to the free agent rumor pile.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday, Irving parted ways with longtime agent Jeff Weschler ahead of what promises to be a wild free agency period. Irving is now expected to partner with ROC Nation Sports who happen to be owned by Brooklyn native and former Brooklyn Nets part owner Jay-Z.
With rumors swirling around Irving and the mutual interest between he and the Nets, this will add to the fuel to that fire.
Irving averaged 23.8 points, 6.9 assists, and five rebounds in what was an up-and-down season for the All-Star point guard. The Celtics did not live up to expectations and there seemed to be a lot of chemistry issues while questions surrounding Irving’s leadership ability popped up frequently.
He then struggled in Boston’s 4-1 semifinals loss to the Milwaukee Bucks prior to officially opting out of his contract early Wednesday and this move to switch agents.
The Nets have tinkered with the idea of an Irving-D’Angelo Russell backcourt and if this move is any indication, they could be inching closer to making that dream a reality.
