Kyrie Irving has yet to give a definitive answer to C’s on free agency

According to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald, the Boston Celtics have yet to receive word from All-Star guard Kyrie Irving on how he’ll approach his free agency this offseason. Bulpett adds that Irving has been on a two-week vacation following the Celtics’ elimination from the NBA Playoffs.

The team still has no definitive word on the plans of Kyrie Irving, who left on a two-week vacation after the Celts were eliminated from the playoffs by Milwaukee last week.

Last October, Irving told a throng of Celtics fans that he would re-sign with Boston but — in what was a grueling regular season — appeared to have had a change of heart by February.

However, the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are now thought to be three other teams that Irving is giving serious consideration to joining, with the Knicks and Nets taking turns as the frontrunner for Irving’s services. Irving is also said to be interested in a superstar pairing with Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant, his self-professed best friend and an impending free agent.

It’s worth noting that when Irving initially backed away from his previous commitment to re-signing in Boston that he said that the Celtics were “at the head of the race.” A comment that served to alert Boston that there were indeed other teams under his consideration.

The start of NBA free agency has been moved up to June 30 from it’s traditional date of July 1 but Boston would certainly like to know before then what Irving’s inclinations are.
