Kyogo Rennes nightmare continues as Celtic hero's ally to leave

Kyogo's Rennes nightmare continues as a man instrumental in signing him will be leaving the club.

The Celtic hero has struggled since making the move to France in January and has played just six times, two of which were starts. He hasn't played a minute since April 13 and was left out of the squad entirely for three games running.

The Japanese international striker was signed when Jorge Sampaoli was manager, but he was soon sacked and then sensationally insisted he had no say in the £10million signing.

Successor Habib Beye has since frozen the former Hoops man out.

Rennes boss Beye automatically triggered a contract extension as manager, which means the 30-year-old's situation is unlikely to get any better.

Indeed, it is believed the French side have already made the decision to allow Kyogo to leave this summer.

And now, the transfer chief who took him to the club will be moving on. Rennes announced that director of football Frederic Massara will leave by mutual consent.

A statement reads: "By mutual agreement, SRFC and Frederic Massara have decided to end their collaboration at the end of the season. The SRFC would like to thank him and wish him the best for the future."

Upon leaving the club, Sampaoli had said:  "The owner of the club is a very important person in France and, frankly, the club was not up to the expectations that I had compared to the market.

"The sports director decided to make a transfer window that had nothing to do with what we needed. We preferred to cut the bridges. I could not represent a team which I had not chosen the players in the winter transfer window.

"We even talked about players who have already played with us to change the story more easily, but we were not listened to."

That forced Massara to play things down at the time, saying: "The staff is working well, we have all the confidence that things can progress.

"It is not a question of that, we must start with the players. I am very disappointed with the team at the moment. We will have time to assess it, don't worry.

"The club supports us, the owner supports us and showed it during this winter transfer window where we have already brought in big players who can help us get back on track.

"We will be ready to see if there are opportunities to strengthen ourselves further. Now, we have to focus on the basics. Fight a little more for this jersey."
