Kyogo in Celtic vs Rangers Viaplay Cup final fitness sweat as talisman forced off against St Mirren

Celtic are sweating over the fitness of Kyogo ahead of the Viaplay Cup final later this month after he was forced off with what looks like a shoulder injury in the Scottish Cup clash against St Mirren.

The first trophy of the season is up for grabs at Hampden on 26 February with Rangers the opposition at the national stadium. Ange Postecoglou is looking to retain the first trophy he won in Scotland after last season’s come from behind victory over Hibs.

But he may have to do so without his top scorer due to injury. Kyogo started the Hoops’ Scottish Cup fifth round tie at home to St Mirren, but was forced off inside the first quarter of an hour. The Japanese striker went down and seemed to land awkwardly on his left shoulder. He received treatment on the park but couldn’t continue and had to come, with Liel Abada coming on in his place. 90 seconds later, the hosts were ahead when compatriot Daizen Maeda turned home from close range.

There will now be a nervous wait as Celtic assess the damage. With just two weeks until the showdown with their city rivals, the race is on to see if Kyogo will be fit enough to be involved.

He made his return to action after injury in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers. But he struggled to make an impact as the Light Blues came from behind to win and book a spot in the final, where they beat Hearts after extra-time.
