J-League side Vissel Kobe revealed Celtic have reached an agreement to sign their star forward Kyogo Furuhashi in the early hours of Friday morning.
The frontman appears set to become Ange Postecoglou's third signing of the summer rebuild and will be the first from his recent Far Eastern stomping ground.
Furuhashi did not work under Postecoglou at previous club Yokohama F. Marinos.
But the Parkhead boss will have been well aware of his talents with 14 goals in just 20 J-League matches this term.
The 26-year-old forward has amassed six caps for the Japan national team – scoring three times – and has played for Kobe since 2018.
The club is best known for being the landing spot of post-Barcelona Andres Iniesta, while Belgium Euro 2020 star Thomas Vermaelen marshals the defence.
But even in the face of such royalty, Furuhashi has become one of their main stars and indeed that of the entire league.
A short Vissel Kobe statement reads: "We are pleased to announce that we have reached a basic agreement between the clubs regarding the complete transfer of forward Kyogo Furuhashi (26) to Celtic FC, from the Scottish Premiership.
"In the future, a formal contract will be signed after undergoing local medical checks."
Furuhashi will join fellow new attacker Liel Abada, who arrived in Glasgow from Maccabi Petah Tivka on Wednesday, while defender Osaze Urhoghide became Postecoglou's first signing earlier this month on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday.
