Kyogo Furuhashi signs for Celtic as J-League top scorer pens four-year deal

Celtic have secured the signing of J-League top scorer Kyogo Furuhashi - subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old has penned a four-year-deal at Parkhead and the former Vissell Kobe man knows Ange Potecoglou well from their time in Japan together.

Furuhashi can play wide or through the middle and his 14 goals this season had him leading the scoring charts in his home country and a report in Japan states the fee could be around £5m.

Postecoglou moved quick for a player who has been linked with the likes of PSV and Anderlecht for a player who previously played for Gifu.

And the Celtic boss is delighted to secure the player who he competed with on a regular basis during his time Yokohama Marinos.

He told the clubs website: “We are delighted to bring Kyogo Furuhashi to Celtic. He is a player of real quality and clearly someone I know well.

“I think he will add something special to our squad and I am sure the way he plays will excite our supporters. We look forward to welcoming him to Celtic."

Barcelona legend and former Kobe team-mate Andres Iniesta is convinced the new arrival has all the qualities to be a roaring success in Glasgow.

Iniesta said: "To be honest, he absolutely has the talent to play in Europe. He's leading the J1's scoring chart, but it's not just that. He's got strong technique, and I believe he can succeed in Europe.

"I'm sure he's got scouts watching him already, but it's going to be tough for us because he scores a lot of goals!

"It'll be tough but if he goes to Europe I'll be incredibly happy for him, because for Japanese players it's a dream to play in Europe."

Celtic 's pursuit for new talent has been ramped up in recent days as Furuhashi follows the signing of Israeli Liel Abada and Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt is set to follow.

It comes with Kris Ajer on the verge of secure a £13.5m move to Premier League new boys Brentford.
