Kyogo Celtic injury latest as chances to face Rangers in Viaplay Cup Final hinge on more scans

Kyogo is set to undergo further tests as he bids to be fit for the Viaplay Cup Final.

The Celtic forward was taken off just minutes into their Scottish Cup fifth round victory over St Mirren at Parkhead after falling awkwardly, immediately sparking fears that he’d have to sit out the Hampden showdown on February 26. The Hoops top scorer was sent for scans at the weekend, but is set to be further assessed with the true extent of the damage done still unclear. More should be known over the next 24 hours as docs take a closer look.

Kyogo didn’t train on Monday, according to the Scottish Sun, and it’s unlikely he’ll be involved against Aberdeen this weekend in order to give him every chance of being fit to face Rangers at the National Stadium in just under two weeks’ time. Ange Postecoglou is looking to defend the first trophy he won as Celtic boss, while Michael Beale is targeting a maiden winner’s medal as a manager.

The Aussie head coach said at the weekend that he was hopeful of Kyogo’s chances after suffering a similar injury last term. He explained: “It’s his shoulder. He had a similar one last year. We’ll just wait and see, we’ll get it scanned.

“He’s a pretty quick healer, I know what he’s like, he’ll probably want to train on Monday – but we’ll wait and see how the scan goes. Obviously, there’s an issue there but I’ll just wait and see.

“Just Kyogo in his nature, there’s no doubt he’ll be pushing to make himself available for next week. We just have to be sensible, there’s a lot of football to be played and we’ll be guided by the best information.”
