Kym Marsh wants to play a 'psychopath in a dark drama' after leaving Corrie

After 13 years on the cobbles, Kym Marsh is preparing to bow out of Coronation Street and leave Michelle Connor behind her.

The 43-year-old announced her departure from Coronation Street in February citing wanting to "explore some other roles" and it seems she wants a completely different style of character when she does.

Speaking to OK! Magazine , Michelle said: "I really want to do something different now. I’d like to play a psychopath in a really dark drama. I want to stretch myself."

The new grandmother also revealed that there won't be a dry eye on set when she films her final scenes - but the good news is, bosses are leaving her story open-ended for a possible return.

Kym's first job after leaving the cobbles will be fronting For Love Or Money with Ashley John-Baptiste (BBC/PA Wire)

The actress continued: "It's going to be strange and there’s a little bit of nervousness there but I’m ready for it. I want to try new things before I'm too old.

"My last day will be emotional and I'll cry my eyes out. It's my decision to go but they're kindly leaving the door open and I'd like to think I'd go back one day."

Kym spoke in this week's OK! Magazine (OK! Magazine)

Before getting stuck into a drama like she hopes, Michelle has already announced her first job since leaving the ITV soap, fronting a five-part investigative BBC show about romance frauds called For Love Or Money.

And to switch things up further, she will embark on an arena tour alongside her eight-year-old daughter Polly ELF: A Christmas Spectacular.

Read Kym's full interview in this week's OK! magazine available nationwide on Tuesday.
