Kym Marsh has revealed she and fiancé Scott Ratcliffe are set to walk down the aisle later this year in a military-themed wedding.
The Corrie star, 45, got engaged to the army major, 32, last month when he popped the question on her birthday after three years together.
The pair have dived straight into wedding planning after learning of Kym’s father’s terminal cancer diagnosis and admitted that they hope their ceremony will "lift" their family’s spirit.
Speaking to OK! Magazine about their plans, the star shared: “We’ve already booked it, it’s this year! Scott went away and did it all.
“My dad is struggling with walking now because he’s often in pain so we’re having the wedding in a few months’ time.
“We got engaged to be married,” Scott added. “And on the back of some bad news we thought, if we can pull it off let’s do it this year, because it’s the lift that everyone needs.”
The former soap star added that their guests should expect a “very military wedding” and admitted that she has already said yes to the dress, hinting that it’s not what people will expect her to wear.
“I’ve been and chosen the dress!” Kym said. “It’s probably not what people may have expected me to have gone for. It’s not black, so don’t worry [laughs].”
The couple also revealed that they have a “very big wedding party” and hinted that they’ll have a number of famous faces at the nuptials, most notably Kym’s former Corrie co-star Anthony Cotton.
The pair met through Antony back in 2018 and very quickly became close, previously telling OK! that they are "made for each other".
The upcoming marriage will be Kym's third, having previously been married to former EastEnders heartthrob Jack Ryder from 2002 to 2009 and then to Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas from 2012 to 2014.
From her relationship with Lomas, Kym had her late baby son Archie who tragically died at 11 weeks in 2010.
The then-couple later welcomed their daughter Polly in 2011.
Kym is also the mother of son David, 26, and daughter Hollie, 24, from a previous relationship with Dave Cunliffe.
Last month, Kym revealed the heartbreaking news that her dad Dave was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer after delaying getting a check-up during the pandemic.
The former Hear'Say singer told how Dave, 76, had put off having his check-up as he didn't want to add further pressure onto an over-stretched NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.
Due to lockdowns, there has been 50,000 fewer referrals for suspected prostate cancer.
The actress told The Sun : "At this stage doctors are talking about it being incurable, but it is treatable and the hope is that they may be able to extend his life - but by how much nobody really knowns and he is in discomfort."
