Kym Marsh pictured in her first major TV role since leaving Corrie

Kym Marsh has been spotted filming her first major TV role since leaving Coronation Street at the end of last year.

Kym played feisty barmaid and restaurant manageress Michelle Connor in Corrie for almost 14 years.

The actress waved goodbye to the cobbles as her character started a new life in Ireland, and now her new role has been revealed.

Kym is starring in series four of the BBC drama The Syndicate, which explores how the lives of a group of people change after they win the lottery.

Her character was seen in a work uniform of a red tabard over a patterned T-shirt and white jeans.

She was also spotted standing in a doorway on location in Burley in Wharfedale in West Yorkshire in a cosy grey dressing gown.

The star carried a hand held fan to help her to stay cool.

Kym, 44, is in good company in the drama because her co-stars include fellow former Corrie actress Katie McGlynn, who played the late Sinead Osbourne, Line of Duty, Boon and Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey and Strictly Come Dancing finalist Joe Sugg in his first TV role.

The fourth series of The Syndicate was announced in February, five years after the last run of the show, and is set to centre on kennel staff seemingly saved from job losses by a huge lottery win.

Production had been delayed until this month due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Corrie fans were in tears as Kym's character Michelle left quietly in a back of a taxi.

Michelle's world was rocked just days after the death of her ex fiance Robert Preston when she found out that creepy hotelier Ray Crosby was the secret buyer of the bistro formerly run by her and Robert.

She went to the bistro to hand over the keys to the new owner and when it turned out to be Ray, who had previously tried it on with her, a grief-stricken Michelle set about smashing up the place until her best friend Carla Connor ordered her to stop.

This was the catalyst for her emotional goodbye in the Rovers to her friends and family.

This week Kym appeared on Good Morning Britain and was showered with compliments on her new shorter and darker hairstyle.

Kym shot to fame in 2000 on ITV reality show Popstars, eventually becoming a singer in the band Hear'Say which was formed from the series.

She made her debut on the ITV soap in 2006 as singer Michelle who became a barmaid and later landlady of the Rovers Return.

The actress wanted to explore new roles, leaving the door open for her character's return one day.

This summer Kym has been sitting in the hot seat as a guest presenter on The One Show and she's been hosting the BBC One consumer show Your Money and Your Life with Watchdog and Rogue Traders presenter Matt Allwright.
