Kym Marsh opens up on anxiety attacks and 'upsetting' Christmas after TV absence

Kym Marsh has opened up about suffering anxiety attacks amid absence from TV screens.

The former Coronation Street star stopped appearing on Morning Live, the BBC One show that she helped launch in September 2020.

Kym addressed her absence back in October, citing family and her own mental health struggles for her time away from the show.

But the actress has now discussed returning to work as she prepares for a return to the stage in Fatal Attraction.

"Last year was really tough, especially after my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer – that hit me like a tonne of bricks," Kym told OK! Magazine.

"I started suffering from really bad anxiety attacks and I knew I had to take some time away from work and spend some time with my family.

"I’ve been having talk therapy which I find really helps. I’m in a good place now and looking forward to getting back to work."

Kym spoke to the publication after heading on a romantic Caribbean honeymoon with new husband, Scott Ratcliff.

The 45-year-old, who played Michelle Connor in Corrie, and Scott, a major in the army Parachute Regiment, tied the knot in at the Royal Memorial Chapel at Sandhurst in October 2021.

The Morning Live presenter was walked down the aisle by her dad, Dave, before the couple said 'I do' in front of family and friends in the stunning military ceremony.

But Kym ended up having an 'upsetting' Christmas after being struck down with Covid.

"Unfortunately I caught Covid just before Christmas, so I was in isolation. It was really upsetting as the festive season is such a big deal for our family," she told OK!

"But it was more important to follow the rules and keep everyone safe."

Kym will be reunited with her former Corrie co-star Oliver Farnsworth in the tour of Fatal Attraction (Matthew Pover)

Kym will begin her role in Fatal Attraction this month.

She will play Alex Forrest, the role famously played by Glenn Close in the 1987 box office smash, while ex-Corrie favourite Oliver will play her lover Dan Gallagher.

The new theatre production will head to Manchester Opera House for a week of performances from February 21, 2022.
