Kym Marsh misses BBC's Morning Live after being struck down with coronavirus

Kym Marsh was forced to miss today's Morning Live after she was struck down with coronavirus.

Her co-host Gethin Jones revealed that she was suffering with the virus while making an an appearance on BBC Breakfast today with Dan Walker and Louise Minchin.

Instead, she was replaced by new Strictly It Takes Two presenter Janette Manrara, who joined Gethin on the show.

He said: "Janette is in for Kym today. Kym is at home after testing positive for covid so we will check in with her.

"So we will be checking in with her during the show."

It comes after the ex-Coronation Street actress, 45, may have caught Covid-19 from son David, 26, whose girlfriend was "really poorly" with the virus.

Kym subsequently missed a number of episodes of the show last week while self-isolating.

Addressing her reason for staying home last week, she told Gethin and Janette via video link that their family had had an awful week.

She said: "Yeah, so I wasn't well last week, I think you already mentioned that.

"I'd had a bad cold, and had two PCR tests both negative, but still was kind of coughing all over the place."

"I travelled home as always on the weekend, to be with my family, with my kids, and then over the weekend my son has tested positive for Covid. So not great."

Asked how her son was doing, she said: "He's okay. He's not doing too badly. So it's come from his girlfriend, his girlfriend is also self-isolating. She's been really, really poorly.

"David hasn't so far been as poorly as she has but today he said he's aching more today and he's coughing more as well.

"But up to now, he's doing okay, so fingers crossed he'll be alright."

Kym was left devastated after her dad Dave, 76, was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer last month.

Dave had delayed his check-up as he hadn't wanted to add further pressure onto an over-stretched NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

This comes amid reports that there have been 50,000 fewer referrals for suspected prostate cancer during the last year.

Kym had appeared on Morning Live to speak to her dad about his diagnosis in an emotional short film.

Back in the studio, Kym had been in tears as she said: "I'm sorry, it's so difficult for me to watch that. I'm proud of you, Dad."

During the chat, Kym had told her dad in a heart-to-heart: "You have always taught me to be strong and to never take things lying down. Sink or swim."

Dave responded: "I'm not going anywhere."

"I know you're not - you can't leave me," she replied.

In the film, Kym had urged men to get checked and said: "Dad knew something wasn't right but he felt he couldn't go to the GP during that time [the coronavirus pandemic] so it got left.

"Dad now has advanced prostate cancer. It has spread to his pelvis, his spine, his ribs and his leg."
