Kylie Minogue returns as classic Neighbours character Charlene Robinson

Kylie Minogue has stunned fans by returning to play her iconic Neighbours character Charlene Robinson.

The 51-year-old Australian superstar played the daughter of Fred Mitchel and Madge Bishop on the long running soap between 1986 and 1988.

And now, more than 30 years since she last played the curly haired beauty, Kylie has slipped back into her dungarees and picked up a wrench to reprise her character in an advert for the Australian tourist board.

The three minue advert – which also stars Aussie comedian Adam Hills and features cameos from cricketer Shane Warne and swimmer Ian Thorpe – sees Kylie singing about the advantages of visiting Australia.

The star also recreates her iconic Slow music video – showing herself laying beside a swimming pool surrounded by fellow bathers.

While the sights of Australia and local wildlife are also given plenty of time in the spotlight for the video.

“Phew! I can finally talk about this now. It has been so hard keeping this a secret,” Kylie said after the video emerged and fans caught sight of her as Charlene again.

“That was done wiht nothing but pure love and we hope to see you Down Under real soon,” she added.

Fellow Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan recently announced he would gladly return to Neighbours on the one condition that Kylie joined him.

The 51-year-old actor featured in the Aussie soap at the same time as Kylie – with his character, Scott Robinson, marrying her in an episode that aired on 1 July 1987.

"It doesn't feel like something I need to do. I have absolute respect for the show and what it's given me, but the problem with going back would be that the publicity becomes bigger than the moment,” Jason told Radio Times earlier this month while discussing Neighbours turning 35.

However, he went on: "If Guy [Pearce], Kylie [Minogue] and me agreed we'd all do three episodes, that'd be different because we'd be sharing it."

Neighbours first aired on 18 March 1985 - and has also launched the careers of Natalie Imbruglia, Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth.
