Kylie Minogue opens up about 'doomed' romance with Michael Hutchence in new documentary

Kylie Minogue has spoken out about her “doomed” relationship with Michael Hutchence in a new documentary exploring the INXS frontman’s life.

In an interview featured in the film Mystify: Michael Hutchence, which was directed by the late singer’s friend Richard Lowenstein, Minogue admitted that her former boyfriend was “a dark bad boy” who “opened up a whole new world for [her].”

“Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it,” she said of the musician, who she dated from 1989 to 1991.

“As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well. If you’re a sensual being, all of your senses need stimulation. He definitely awakened my desire for things in my world.

“He had insatiable curiosity, all the good things in life and some [of] the bad,” she continued.

“He opened up a whole new world for me. A lot of it was based around pleasure, let’s face it.”

She went on to suggest that although their romance “felt loving,” it was “probably doomed.”

Recalling the moment that the pair ended their relationship, she said that Hutchence looked like “a broken man.”

“He was on all fours on the floor crying,” she claimed. “I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what was happening. I just know he was a broken man.

“I’d never seen any man like that before. I left pretty confused and destroyed and knew that was it.”

U2’s Bono and model Helena Christensen, who also dated Hutchence, are among the stars to appear in the film, which made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last month.

The documentary contains previously unseen footage of the singer, found in Lowenstein’s attic, and is set to air on BBC Two, though a broadcast date is yet to be announced.

Hutchence was found dead in 1997, with the cause of death later ruled as suicide.
