Kylie Minogue Las Vegas Strip residency sells out fast

Visitors to the Las Vegas Strip often try their luck at a little gambling, enjoy a fine meal at one of the many celebrity chefs' restaurants in the area and maybe buy a ticket to see one of several pop, rock or country stars performing in a residency in a hotel casino theater.

Gambling can be found at any number of casinos along the Strip, and several of the hotel casinos operated by Caesars Entertainment (CZR) -) and MGM Resorts International (MGM) -) offer restaurants operated by celebrity chefs. Whether it's a Bobby Flay or Gordon Ramsay restaurant at a Caesars property or an Emeril Lagasse or Michael Minna restaurant at an MGM establishment, there's plenty to choose from.

U2 had the hottest ticket sale in Vegas

Rock giant U2 opens Sphere Entertainment's (SPHR) -) Sphere at the Venetian on Sept. 29 for a 25-show residency that is sold out. U2's residency, which will run through Dec. 16, were the hottest ticket in town when they went on sale. Many are available, however, at steep prices on ticket broker sites.

The new hottest ticket in town quite possibly could be from a pop singer from the 1980s who couldn't match U2 in record, album and ticket sales back in the day.

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, who had a worldwide hit with "The Loco-Motion" in 1988, in July scheduled a 10-show residency at Apollo Global Management's (APO) -) The Venetian Las Vegas' cabaret-style nightclub Voltaire that will bookend the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix on Nov 16-18. The residency is scheduled for Nov. 3, 4, 10 and 11, then Dec. 8, 9 and Jan. 19, 20, 26 and 27.

Minogue's residency will likely promote her upcoming album "Tension," which is planned for release on Sept. 22. Last spring, she had international success with her comeback dance hit "Padam Padam."

Kylie Minogue residency sells out

Fans of 1980s pop star Minogue who wanted to buy tickets to see her 10-show residency at The Venetian's Voltaire in November, December and January might be out of luck or could resort to using a secondary market ticket broker.

Much to the chagrin of Minogue fans, many were shut out of the ticket sale by the crashing Voltairelv.com website. All 10,000 tickets, or 1,000 per show, sold out in less than 5 hours after going on sale at 10:30 a.m. Pacific on Aug. 9, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Demand was so high that wait times reportedly were as long as 3,359 hours. The website had informed fans by 4 p.m. that tickets had sold out.

Ticketmaster on Aug. 8 offered Travel Packages for show tickets and suites at The Venetian, but those packages have sold out. The Venetian reportedly also sold out of some tickets on its website.

Ticket broker StubHub on Aug. 10 listed one ticket available for a Jan. 19 performance priced at $1,710. Eight tickets remained for a Nov. 4 performance, listed at $1,620 per ticket if you buy two, $1,800 if you buy one. Four tickets remained for the Jan. 26 show priced at $1,800 per ticket.

Fans of Minogue might want to take a chance and hold off on buying high-priced tickets from ticket brokers as musical artists will often extend residencies by adding more shows to follow the original run.
