Kylie Minogue lands 'role of a lifetime' as sassy bushpig in animated Netflix movie

Kylie Minogue has landed the role of a bushpig in a new Netflix movie.

The excited 53-year-old popstar posted a video of herself to Instagram on Thursday night in which she shared the news with her 2.3 million followers.

The former Neighbours actress looked into the camera and said: "I'm Kylie Minogue and I'm preparing for the role of a lifetime, as a bush pig. No, really!"

She captioned the post: "Well this is a first! Excited to share with you Susan, the bush-pig!!! Super fun cameo in the new Netflix animated film Back to the Outback. Loved it!! You can meet all the wonderful characters in #BacktotheOutback on Netflix today."

The news was well-received by fans of the Locomotion singer.

One wrote: "Wow, something completely unexpected, sounds amazing!"

A second echoed the sentiment and with: "This is amazing... Loving the movie and the Susan character already."

"Omg this is amazing @kylieminogue you're going to make such a cute little Bush pig can't wait to watch," a third chimed in, while another wrote: "Can't wait to watch it girl! #slayqueen."

The news was particularly surprising as the Aussie star, who has starred in a series of films including 2001 hit Moulin Rouge, did no pre-promoting of the film, which is out on Netflix today.

A description of the movie reads: "Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they're monsters, a ragtag group of Australia's deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs.

"Leading the group is Maddie, a poisonous snake with a heart of gold, who bands together with a self-assured Thorny Devil lizard Zoe, a lovelorn hairy spider Frank, and a sensitive scorpion Nigel.

"But when their nemesis — Pretty Boy, a cute but obnoxious koala — unexpectedly joins their escape, Maddie and the gang have no choice but to take him with them."

Kylie Minogue has released her new album DISCO: Extended Mixes (Instagram)

Other Australian stars lending their voices to the characters include top actors Isla Fisher, Guy Pearce and Tim Minchin.

She is also reportedly back in the studio working on new music.

Kylie, who also released an Extended Remixes edition of her 2020 album Disco, is said to have been in a London studio last week working with songwriter Biff Stannard, her longtime collaborator.

According to The Sun, she "is already thinking about her next album, which she wants to have an electro-pop sound."

Kylie, who worked on Disco during the lockdown, built a studio at her London home and previously revealed that she found the process tricky.

"I think if there was a kind of fly-on-the-wall camera, it would've been a comedy," she said. "I mean, me trying to wrangle the sound absorber, which bit goes where, lots of googling YouTube tutorials and calling a friend."

She also revealed her lack of confidence in the finished product.

"There was a point during lockdown and during all of that where I guess maybe the album was kind of finished," she said. "And I did question, what does this mean? What's the point? There's so much happening in the world and there's no discos open.

"But the main question that kind of reassured me to keep going was, 'What will I achieve if I don't release it?' And the answer, that's really easy, was absolutely nothing. So we stuck with 'Disco'."
