Kylie Minogue admits she’ll shed ‘tears’ during Glastonbury 2019 set 14 years after cancelling over breast cancer diagnosis

Kylie Minogue admitted that her Glastonbury set will be an emotional experience after she was forced to cancel her 2005 performance.

The Australian pop star had been due to headline the Pyramid Stage 14 years ago but had to pull out when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Speaking to the Mirror before performing in the festival’s Sunday afternoon Legends slot, the 50-year-old said that she will “absolutely” shed “tears” during the show.

“I will remember what happened those years ago and my overriding feeling will just be of gratitude and how fragile life can be,” she told the paper.

“Will there be tears? Absolutely. Let’s just say I will be wearing waterproof mascara.”

The singer admitted that she was “floored” after being invited to join this year’s line-up as she had thought she had “missed [her] opportunity” to perform at Worthy Farm.

“I would have been one of the only female solo artists in the festival’s history to headline,” she said.

“I really thought I missed my opportunity and, as the years went by, I said to myself, ‘Well this just isn’t going to happen.”

Cameo: Minogue eventually made her debut with a guest appearance in 2010 (LEON NEAL/AFP/Getty Images)

“My memory’s so strong of so much around that time and while my focus had moved on from Glastonbury, I was watching and doing, ‘I’m meant to be there.’

“It would have been pretty mega at the time to headline - the next woman to do it was Beyonce.”

Minogue eventually made her debut at the festival in 2010 as she joined Scissor Sisters to sing Any Which Way.

The popular Legends slot has recently been filled by the likes of Dolly Parton, Lionel Ritchie and Bee Gees star Barry Gibb.

Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure are set to headline this year’s festival, which kicks off tomorrow.
