Kylian Mbappe, World Cup final 2018: France forward wins Fifa Young Player Award after goal against Croatia

France striker Kylian Mbappe has won the Fifa Young Player Award for his performances at the 2018 World Cup.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a sensational tournament as France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final to win the World Cup for a second time.

He scored the winning goal as France beat Peru 1-0 in the group stages – just his fifth ever international goal after being handed his full France debut in 2017.

But it was in the knockout stages – particularly against Argentina – that the youngster truly announced his arrival on the international stage.

He scored twice as France beat Argentina 4-3, running their defence ragged with his frequent drives into the opposition penalty box.

He also impressed in wins over Uruguay and Belgium before again getting on the scoresheet against Croatia in the World Cup final: his fourth goal of the tournament.

Croatia captain Luka Modric won the tournament’s Golden Ball award for best overall player, while England captain Harry Kane took home the Golden Boot for scoring the highest amount of goals.

Kane scored six goals in six games.
