Kylian Mbappe wins Ligue 1 Golden Boot despite scoring same amount as Wissam Ben Yedder

Paris Saint-Germain hotshot Kylian Mbappe has won the 2019/20 Ligue 1 Golden Boot award - despite scoring the same amount of goals as Monaco's Wissam Ben Yedder.

The French top-flight was curtailed last month when the country's government banned football until September in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, with PSG crowned champions last week.

The capital club had won 22 of their 27 Ligue 1 matches across the season, and stood 12 points ahead of second-placed Marseille with a game in hand.

Other top-flight leagues across Europe are hoping to restart again in the coming weeks, with the German Bundesliga confirming that they will get going again next weekend and the Premier League targeting a mid-June return.

There will be no U-turn in France however, with L'Equipe reporting that Mbappe has now officially won his second successive Golden Boot thanks to his 18 goals in 20 league appearances across the course of the season.

That puts him level with Ben Yedder's tally of 18, but Mbappe has taken the crown due to the fact that more of his goals came from open play.

Three of Ben Yedder's 18 strikes for Monaco were from the penalty spot, compared to none of Mbappe's.

The World Cup winner also outperforms the former Sevilla when it comes to his goals-per-game ratio, netting at a rate of 0.9 goals per match compared to Ben Yedder's 0.69.

In the Premier League, players share the Golden Boot award if they finish on the same number of goals at the end of the season, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all finishing on 22 strikes in 2018/19.

Jamie Vardy currently leads this season's charts on 19, ahead of Aubameyang on 17 and Sergio Aguero and Salah on 16.
