Kylian Mbappe sent Real Madrid transfer message by Luka Modric ahead of Liverpool clash

Luka Modric has encouraged Kylian Mbappe to join Real Madrid if the La Liga champions attempt a move for him in the summer transfer window.

Mbappe started for PSG on Tuesday night as they progressed past Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

The young Frenchman burst onto the scene at the 2018 World Cup and has continued his meteoric rise since that tournament, scoring 33 goals in all competitions this season.

But the 22-year-old’s contract will enter its final year this summer, and with Mbappe dragging his feet on signing an extension to stay in the French capital, Madrid are now eyeing a move.

It is believed that PSG will attempt to cash in on Mbappe if he does indeed fail to sign a new deal, rather than risk letting him move on for free next year.

Madrid are the obvious candidates to attempt to sign the attacker, with midfielder Modric insisting that Mbappe would quickly settle in at the Bernabeu.

“You hear a lot of stories about the players who'll be coming in and who'll be leaving, but I can't go into that,” Modric said ahead of his side’s Champions League quarter-final second leg with Liverpool.

“Mbappe is a great player and he's proved that with his national team and PSG.

“Great players are always welcome at Real Madrid, but it wouldn't be right of me to speak about players at other clubs, particularly at this stage of the season.

“We'll have to see what happens next season, but he's a top player and is amongst the best in the world.”

Though he has not yet signed an extension, PSG still hope that Mbappe will remain at the Parc des Princes, with manager Mauricio Pochettino insisting talks over a new deal are still taking place.

“The most important thing is that Kylian is quiet. He is quiet and focused on the team and helping them achieve their goals. Kylian is very mature despite his age,” he said last week.

“Both club and player are trying to come to an agreement that will see Kylian stay with us for a long time. It's the desire of the club and we are working on everything.”
