Kylian Mbappe sends message to former teammate Edinson Cavani ahead of PSG vs Man Utd

Kylian Mbappe is prepared to put his friendship with Edinson Cavani to one side for 90 minutes as he "tries to beat him" in Tuesday night's Champions League clash.

The forward duo played alongside each other for three seasons at Parc des Princes but will be on opposite teams as Paris Saint-Germain host Manchester United.

Cavani moved to Old Trafford on Deadline Day on a free transfer after his contract with PSG expired.

The Uruguayan spent seven seasons with the Ligue 1 giants, scoring 200 goals in 301 appearances and winning 15 major honours.

However, when asked if it would feel weird facing his former teammate, Mbappe told TF1 : "Not at all, he is in a different team now.

"I wish him the best. We are going to play against him and try to beat him."

Meanwhile, Cavani is prepared for an emotional return to the French capital and said: "I am going to experience an exceptional moment that nobody thought would happen. It will be an incredible thing, beautiful emotions."

Cavani joined United on a one-year deal with the option to extend for another season.

The 33-year-old was handed the iconic No. 7 jersey but is yet to make his debut for the club due to coronavirus regulations.

However, Sunday is believed to be his final day in quarantine and he is expected to be available for selection for the group-stage tie against PSG.

Explaining his decision to move to United, Cavani added: “I had a lot of different opportunities, I was excited to play in the Premier League and even more so for Manchester United.

"I am very motivated because I always want to play as much as possible, work, train and give the best of myself.”
