Kylian Mbappe sends honest message to Cristiano Ronaldo after Nations League meeting

Kylian Mbappe has sent an honest message to Cristiano Ronaldo on social media after France and Portugal clashed in the Nations League.

The World Cup winner from 2018 and the victors from the first-ever Nations League came face to face at the Stade de France.

It promised to be a tasty affair - however, it was anything but.

Both teams seemed to cancel each other out, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Neither country went with a weaker line-up, either, with France playing the likes of Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba.

Portugal went with a frontline including Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva - as well as Bruno Fernandes.

Of the two teams, perhaps the most pressure is on the shoulders of Mbappe and Ronaldo.

The two are commonly regarded as some of the best players in the world.

Mbappe, at just 21, is known as the top talent coming through the ranks after helping France win the World Cup, as well as a plethora of trophies at Paris Saint-Germain.

Whereas Ronaldo, at 35, is on the other end of his career - and an incredible one at that - laying claim to countless Champions League, Premier League, La Liga titles - as well as many cups.

And Mbappe had nothing but respect for the Juventus forward, taking to social media to call him: "Idol."

The post on Twitter earned over 250K likes, as well as 50K retweets.

The Frenchman has talked out about his adulation for Ronaldo in the past.

"He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing to meet him when I visited Valdebebas," he said.

"But I am a competitor and a person who is very competitive and all I want to do is win, win, win. So it doesn't really matter who is in front of us, we want to win.

"I admired him when I was younger, but that ended. Now I go to the Bernabeu to play and to win.

"From someone who has won five Ballons d'Or you can learn a lot. He's a great player, but I have those here too.

" Neymar is here and I think he is very similar and is at practically the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo."
