Kylian Mbappe’s role in Mohamed Salah transfer ‘dream’ and Erling Haaland factor

Mohamed Salah has emerged as a ‘dream’ transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France.

Le Parisien reported earlier this week that the French giants are keen on Salah as they look to launch a fresh assault at Champions League glory under Mauricio Pochettino.

But a deal for Salah is entirely dependant on one player - Kylian Mbappe.

That’s because Salah is the ‘dream’ target to replace Mbappe as they begin to plan for life without the striker if he decides to leave.

Mbappe has been the subject of huge interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are also in the market for Erling Haaland.

It is widely reported that Mbappe and Haaland, the two best young strikers in the world, are top targets for both clubs.

As a result, their destinations could have a crucial impact on Salah and his future at Liverpool.

If Mbappe is convinced to leave PSG, then the Reds could face a fight to keep hold of Salah.

But, if Real Madrid opt to pursue Haaland instead of Mbappe, then he could well be tempted to remain in the French capital.

That scenario would leave Liverpool in pole position to keep hold of Salah, who himself has been linked heavily with Real Madrid.

Whilst Barcelona could throw a spanner in the works with a move, they seem more focused on other targets and keeping Lionel Messi whilst managing their fragile financial situation.

Mbappe, meanwhile, has also been linked with Liverpool, which could open the door to him and Salah trading places if things fell into place.

But that seems unlikely, and Mauricio Pochettino recently claimed he was optimistic of keeping Mbappe, albeit before their Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester City.

“I am an optimist. I hope that the best players at the club, in this case Kylian, will stay here.”

Salah, meanwhile, recently claimed “nobody is talking to him” about a new contract at Anfield.

"No one is talking to me about that, so I can't say much about that," Salah told Sky Sports of his contract situation.

"No one in the club is talking to me about anything so I do not know.”
