Kylian Mbappe plunges PSG future into doubt to put Real Madrid and Man City on alert

Kylian Mbappé says his future could lie away from Paris Saint-Germain as he feels 'it's time to have more responsibility'.

The 20-year-old has scored 38 goals in 42 appearances for the French champions this season but says he is on the verge of a 'turning point' in his career.

Paris Saint-Germain signed the forward for a fee in the region of £166 million last summer after a season-long loan at the Ligue 1 champions, winning the league title in each of his campaigns in the French capital.

But Thomas Tuchel's side have still to taste success on the European stage after being dumped out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by Manchester United, with the Reds becoming the first team in the history of the European Cup to reverse a two-goal deficit in a second leg away from home.

And Mbappé says change could be on the horizon.

"Of course there were some disappointments [this season] but it's part of football, we managed to win this league," he said after accepting the Ligue 1 player of the year award on Sunday evening.

Pep Guardiola opens up on his Man City Champions League ambition

Man City players go on team night out to celebrate treble win and bid farewell to Vincent Kompany

"I would like to thank the players, the coach, the club again. It's important for me because I come to a first or a second turning point in my career.

"I discovered a lot of things here. I feel it's time to have more responsibility. I hope it may be Paris Saint-Germain, it will be with great pleasure, or it may be elsewhere for a new project, but I would like to say thank you.

"I said what I had to say. When you are in such an occasion you can send messages, I think I have sent mine.

"If I speak more it will be too much and that is not the message I wish to send."

Mbappé was linked with a move to Manchester City before joining PSG, with Blues boss Pep Guardiola insisting that the Premier League remains an attractive option for players of Mbappé's calibre.

"Anything can happen - we are still looking at a lot of other players, but he is still on that team," he said in the summer of 2017.

"The Premier League is so attractive and the agreements are good.

"All the clubs think about their potential and their squads getting better. We try and we will see."
