But the 20-year-old hasn't spoken about joining the Reds amid some bizarre links to the club of late, but instead outlined his ambitions to play in Major League Soccer and the United States.

Mbappe is already flirting with the potential of leaving Paris Saint-Germain, having spoken about his desire to take on a new challenge.

Recent social media activity also had but that was merely a fantasy.

One thing is for sure, though, and that's Mbappe desire to play in the US at some point during his career.

Identifying the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo - Mbappe has spoken of his hope to one day emulate those 'great players' by making his mark on the US as well.

"We don’t know what happens in football," Mbappe told ESPN . "Now in the USA, a lot of great players come after their careers in Europe, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, great players. You don’t know what can happen, maybe when I’m a little older I can think about this."

As for Mbappe's short-term future, Liverpool are second favourites to land his services this summer at 11/2, according to SkyBet. Real Madrid, however, are the leading option should he quit PSG, with the Spanish giants priced at 5/2.
