Kylian Mbappe 'in contact' with English club as Xherdan Shaqiri speaks out after Liverpool exit

Your morning digest for Tuesday, August 24.

Kylian Mbappe could leave PSG this week as 'one English club in contact' amid Liverpool links

Kylian Mbappe may still leave PSG before the end of the current transfer window, according to reports.

The French side have tabled a new five-year contract for the 22-year-old, but after having not met the offer with enthusiasm, RMC Sport say the Parisian club may be open to selling Mbappe.

His new deal would reportedly make him the third-highest paid player at the club, behind Neymar and new arrival Lionel Messi.

With only a year left on his contract, the report states that Real Madrid are targeting the striker before the end of the summer, with at least one English side also said to have made their interest known, prompting links to Liverpool.

Despite only a week remaining until the transfer deadline, PSG may decide to cash in now rather than risk losing him for free, with the World Cup winner able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January, should negotiations continue to stall.

Xherdan Shaqiri sends five-word message after Liverpool transfer exit confirmed

Xherdan Shaqiri’s permanent move to Lyon was confirmed on Monday afternoon, prompting an outpouring of appreciation from Liverpool fans.

The Reds fanbase thanked the 29-year-old for providing the club with several memorable moments in his three years under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite seeing his game time restricted, owing to injuries and his almost impossible task to dislodge Mohamed Salah from the starting eleven, the former Bayern Munich man still made a mark in the club’s history.

On that famous night against Barcelona at Anfield in 2019, Shaqiri provided the assist for Liverpool’s third goal in their remarkable 4-0 win in the Champions League semi-final.

A brace against Manchester United in front of the Kop, after coming on as a substitute to win the game, as well as a goal against Everton were some of the Switzerland international’s other highlights in a Reds shirt.

Shaqiri responded by posting a five-word message to supporters, following the confirmation of his £9.5m move to the French side.
