Kylian Mbappe hits back at PSG as French star claims he ‘never discussed’ renewing contract

Kylian Mbappe has claimed he “never discussed” renewing his contract with PSG, as the forward’s relationship with the club continues to sour.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season and while there is the option to extend that by a further year, news broke yesterday that Mbappe had informed the club he would not be doing so.

PSG were reportedly angered that Mbappe’s letter to the club confirming that decision was leaked to the media before they were informed, and it has been suggested that they will not allow the Frenchman to leave the club for free in 12 months’ time.

That would mean sealling Mbappe this summer, with Real Madrid likely to be the favourites to sign him having come to doing so last year, before the forward ultimately decided to stay at PSG. The Times have reported that Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs interested in bringing Mbappe to the Premier League this summer.

The French star has now released a statement on the situation, confirming that he will not be extending his deal, but he insisted that the PSG board have known about this since July last year.

“I have never discussed any contract renewal with PSG,” Mbappe told AP.

“The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024 — and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them.”
