Kylian Mbappe has revealed he asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.
The French forward has been a long-term target for Real Madrid and the La Liga giants had two huge bids rejected over the transfer window
Mbappe has now entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 side and he could leave the club for free in summer 2022.
The 22-year-old has now confessed he pushed for an exit - but PSG did not have time to find a replacement for him.
He told RMC Sport: "I asked to leave, because from the moment I did not want to extend, I wanted the club to have a transfer fee to have a quality replacement.
"I announced it early enough that the club can turn around. I wanted everyone to come out grown up, to leave hand in hand, to make a good deal, and I respected that. I said: 'If you don't want me to leave, I will stay'.
"People said I turned down six or seven extension offers, that I don't want to talk to [sporting director] Leonardo anymore, that's absolutely not true."
Despite admitting he asked to be sold, Mbappe denied he waited until the last week of the window to
He added: "That is not up to me to judge but for me, my position has been clear.
"I said that I wanted to leave and I said it quite early. I did not appreciate the idea that 'yes, he came in the final week of August...' because that, that makes me sound like a thief. I said at the end of July I wanted to leave."
