Kylian Mbappe considers retiring from international football after disappointing Euro 2020

Wonderkid Kylian Mbappe is remarkably considering international retirement after a disappointing summer tournament with France at Euro 2020.

Following success at the Russian World Cup in 2018, Les Blues were one of the favourites for the European Championships but surprisingly fell at the Round of 16 stage to Switzerland.

Leading 3-1 with just 10 minutes to play, Didier Deschamp's men were pegged back to 3-3 with Mario Gavranovic netting a 90th-minute equaliser to take the game to extra-time, as the Daily Star reports.

The game then went to penalties after a goalless 30 minutes with Mbappe seeing his vital spot-kick saved by Yann Sommer and France exiting the tournament.

Now, at just 22-years-old, the Frenchman is considering international retirement for a brief period stating the team might be better off in his absence:

"I have always placed the French national team above everything and I will always put it above everything," he told L'Equipe, as per SportBible.

"I have never taken a single Euro to play for the French national team and I will always play for my national team for free. Above all, I never wanted to be a problem.

"But from the moment where I felt like that I was starting to become a problem and that people felt I was a problem…

"The most important thing is the French national team and if the French national team is happier without me, it is like that."

Despite his statement, Mbappe has been selected by Didier Deschamps as part of the squad for the Nations League semi-final against Belgium on Thursday evening.
