Kylian Mbappe claim made by Paris Saint-Germain chief after Liverpool transfer speculation

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi believes Liverpool-linked Kylian Mbappe has 'no reason to leave' the club.

The French World Cup winner has been continually linked with the Reds and Real Madrid for some time now.

Mbappe’s contract at the Le Parc des Princes is due to expire next summer and recent reports have indicated that the forward may opt for a new challenge next season.

PSG secured qualification to the Champions League semi-finals on away goals against Bayern Munich last night, and after the game, Al-Khelaifi provided an update on Mbappe and Neymar’s future.

He said: "I think that next year Neymar will be at Paris Saint-Germain and he will stay here for a long time. Him and Mbappe have no reason to leave.

"It's been a fantastic night for us. We could have scored three or four goals, it's something wonderful. I'm proud of my players.

"Now we'll aim to win the Champions League. It's the second year in a row we're in the semi-finals, it's a great success."

But speaking recently, Mbappe appeared to drop a hint that his future could well lie away from PSG when his contract at the club expires.

He said: "If [my contract talks] had progressed, I would have come to talk about it already. Of course, I will talk about it when I have made up my mind."

While speaking back in February, Jamie Carragher claimed Mbappe could treat Liverpool as a feeder club before moving to Real Madrid.

He said: "I'm not joking. It was based on the fact that Liverpool thought they had a decent chance of getting Mbappe when he was at Monaco.

“I know Jurgen Klopp had spoken to him then and I'm sure other clubs had at that time.

"When Liverpool were in the Champions League final and won the Champions League a couple of years ago, I think anyone watching Liverpool there with Jurgen Klopp and the support of Anfield, if you're ever gonna go to a club in England before you go to Real Madrid.

"Because I think he will, guaranteed, play for Real Madrid at some stage in his career but I'd always feel that maybe Liverpool is that perfect destination for a player like that before you make that next step."
