Kylian Mbappe and Gareth Bale left in dust as Liverpool player claims fastest in Champions League

Virgil van Dijk was clocked as the fastest player in the Champions League this season.

The Dutch defender outpaced the likes of Gareth Bale and Leroy Sane and even his own rapid teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with a top speed of 34.5km per hour.

Van Dijk, who was instrumental in helping Liverpool to secure the European Cup in the heart of defence, was ranked first ahead of some of Europe's most attacking threats.

The centre-back's fastest sprint came against Barcelona at the Camp Nou when the hosts went bursting forward on a counter-attack after a Reds corner in the 92nd minute.
