Kylian Mbappe and Didier Deschamps speak about the threat posed by Evan Ferguson

Kylian Mbappe has highlighted the threat posed by teen sensation Evan Ferguson to France tonight.

And newcomer Mikey Johnston has caught the eye of manager Didier Deschamps.

Mbappe revealed that the French squad had been studying videos of Brighton striker Ferguson after his goalscoring performance last week against Latvia.

"We saw some clips about him,” said the Paris St Germain star.

“Of course he is an important striker for the Ireland team but we hope tomorrow we do our job. But he is a good player.”

Ferguson was also name-checked by Deschamps, who led France to the last two World Cup finals.

“There is a new generation now with new players,” he said. “Ferguson poses a threat, a good player, Johnston as well has joined the team.

“It is a mix of young and experienced players.

“But our team is different too, it is hard to compare really (between the two sides that met at Euro 2016).

“Ireland are known for being direct and vertical in how they play. but of what I’ve seen in recent games they are capable of playing the ball along the ground as well.

“Of course they have a new coach who arrived in 2020 as well.”
