Kylian Mbappe addresses his future amid tenuous Manchester United transfer links

Kylian Mbappe admitted Paris Saint-Germain's performance in this season's Champions League would have no bearing on his future at the club as he continues to be linked with a move away.

The 24-year-old striker was unable to help the Parisians progress into the quarter-finals of Europe's elite competition as Christophe Galtier's side exited the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich. PSG were looking to overturn a one-goal deficit against the Bundesliga side, but the French outfit lost 2-0 in the second leg.

PSG have come up short in recent years in their efforts to secure a first-ever Champions League crown. It will be another campaign without success in Europe for the reigning Ligue 1 champions, which has led to even more speculation about Mbappe's future in France. Despite this, he made it clear prior to the clash at the Allianz that the outcome of the tie would not dictate whether he pursues a new challenge.

Mbappe said: "If I linked my future to the Champions League, without wishing to show a lack of respect to the club, I would have left a long time ago.

"I don't think this match will have an impact. I am here and I am very happy to be here. I am not thinking about anything other than making PSG successful."

Mbappe will undoubtedly be desperate to lift the Champions League during his career, and the forward could potentially be tempted to leave PSG if the Parisians continue to fall short. The former Monaco man has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in recent years.

In November, the Mirror reported that United were lining-up a move for Mbappe, with the Frenchman identified as Cristiano Ronaldo's replacement. The report also claimed that the forward would cost upwards of £150m.

Mbappe has registered 30 goals and eight assists in 31 matches in all competitions so far this season.
