Kyler Murray to get more than one drive in game vs. Raiders

The Arizona Cardinals sent their offensive starts out for only one drive in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. In that appearance, rookie quarterback Kyler Murray looked good, completing 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards and it would have been a perfect 7-of-7 for many more yards had KeeSean Johnson not stepped out of bounds before catching the ball.

It was a start to get excited about.

Fans will get to see more of Murray in the Cardinals’ second preseason game this Thursday at home against the Oakland Raiders.

When asked how much Murray would play on Thursday, head coach Kliff Kingsbury would not specify exactly how much, but did say Murray would play “more.”

I don’t know how much more,” he said. “We’ll see how the game is going, but definitely more than one drive.”

A traditional progression of starters playing in the preseason is usually one or two drives in the first game, a quarter or so in the second and then at least a half in the third game before sitting out the final game.

We will see if this is the pattern Kingsbury uses for his rookie QB.
