Kyler Murray’s NFL commitment and what it means for Bengals

It turns out Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is committed to the NFL.

Murray, who had his choice between the NFL and major league baseball — the Oakland Athletics drafted him ninth overall last year — made the official announcement Monday:

And the Cincinnati Bengals could benefit from the decision.

While Zac Taylor has stressed his commitment to Andy Dalton since becoming head coach, it would be quite interesting to see what the team would do if an electric playmaker like Murray fell to them in the first round.

But here is where it gets more interesting:

While speculation that Murray has this sort of leverage, the point is a superb prospect at the most important position of all will enter a draft class lacking at the position.

If another run on quarterbacks happens, it could push a player down to the Bengals in the first round they wouldn’t normally have access to unless they traded up. And if the Bengals want to move down, trading a top-15 pick to a team trading up to get a quarterback would net a big return.

While the story of Murray might become a tired topic quickly, it’s best to remember it could benefit the Bengals in a few different ways.
