Kyler Murray’s decision to play in the NFL could benefit Chargers

Over the next two months you’ll be hearing a lot about Kyler Murray. A top-10 selection in the MLB draft. A potential first round quarterback in the NFL. Murray bet on himself and chose the NFL. Financially, it was probably the most sure fire way to get rich. A week ago, Murray announced that he’ll enter the NFL draft. This could be great news for the Chargers.

It’ll be quite the gamble for an NFL team to take a quarterback of Murray’s stature with his limited experience early in the first round. Like Lamar Jackson a year ago, Murray could slide to the end of the first round. That’s great news for the Chargers. A team could trade ahead of a team that is drafting behind the Chargers, even at the top of the second, to ensure that they land a talent like Murray.

Say a team trades in front of the Chargers. That’ll do, too. That means a player that could impact the Chargers right away falls another spot towards them. You can spin it a couple of different ways. But if you’re in the camp that believes Murray will slide in the draft, that’s beneficial to the Chargers.
