Kyler Murray measures well at NFL Combine: What does it mean for Giants?

Many thought the New York Giants would take a quarterback in last year’s draft. Instead, Big Blue passed on Sam Darnold and took running back Saquon Barkley.

Now a year later, rumors are swirling connecting the Giants to highly touted prospects Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins.

Although Murray doesn’t seem like a fit for the Giants based on some earlier comments, he got measured on Thursday at the 2019 NFL Combine and the tune may have changed.

Murray checked in at slightly over 5-foot-10 and 207 pounds. His hands also measured 9 1/2 inches, which is larger than both Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield when they got measured a year ago.

Nobody can deny Murray’s athleticism, but the concern has been his size all along. And prior to Thursday’s measurement, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur addressed the alleged concerns with his size.

“I don’t know what’s too small. Russell Wilson’s 5-foot-10, we haven’t seen Kyler be measured yet, but when you watch him on tape he’s an outstanding player,” Shurmur said. “For a sub-6-foot player, he only had five balls batted down. That’s why I say you’ve got to look at the player and how he competed, how he helped his team win games, how he moved his feet – you’ve got to look at all of it and then factor it in and decide if that player’s for you.”

It’s unclear if the Giants are interested in either quarterback, but the evaluation process has begun and with Murray’s favorable measures, you can bet Kyler Murray to the Giants speculation will continue to pick up steam.
