Kyler Murray, Josh Allen debut on’ NFL Top-100 Players’ list over Gardner Minshew

NFL Network’s annual “Top-100 Players” list/show had its first airing for the 2020 season and many fans are already expressing their displeasure with it. Among them are even some fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who won’t get to see a single player from their favorite team on the list.

When the first 30 players were revealed, fans immediately began to compare some names who made the list with others who didn’t, making some valid points. However, it was the quarterback position that ruffled the most feathers as rookie Kyler Murray and second-year signal-caller Josh Allen made the list. This especially got Jaguars fans riled up and cause them to immediately start making a case for Gardner Minshew II in comparison.

Simply put, if you compare the numbers, Minshew should’ve made the list if both Allen and Murray did.

Of course, we’ve had the Murray vs. Minshew argument in the past because they were in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year. With Murray playing in two more games than Minshew (16 to 14), the Jags rookie managed to accumulate one more touchdown pass than Murray (20) and a slightly higher rating (Murray 87.4, Minshew 91.2). Murray did have a higher completion percentage (64.4 to 60.6) and passing yards total (3,722 to 3,271), but again their seasons weren’t significantly that different.

When comparing Allen to Minshew, the case is even stronger for Minshew to be listed. With two fewer games under his belt in 2019, Minshew registered a better completion percentage (Allen’s was 58.8%), registered more passing yards (Allen had 3,089), had more touchdown passes (Allen had 20), and had a higher QBR (Allen’s was 85.3). Minshew also registered fewer picks (nine to six)

Sunday’s listing of players will only make fans call for a new voting process, as it’s solely left up to the players. Although they don’t play the game, they may be right about a new process as some questionable things have already gone down.
