Kyler Murray isn’t planning on failing but knows how to handle it

Because he is a rookie quarterback who is expected to start right away, Arizona Cardinals No. 1 pick Kyler Murray will experience some bumps in the road in his play. He will make mistakes and will inevitably have struggles and failures.

That doesn’t mean he expects failure.

“I’m not waking up thinking ‘I can’t wait to fail,’ but it is what it is,” he told reporters Tuesday after minicamp practice.

However, he is confident he can handle it when it happens.

“Playing early my freshman year at college and struggling a little bit, I think that’s prepared me for a little bit of failure,” he explained. “Obviously, you don’t want to fail, but when it happens, I’ll know how to handle it.”

The key is consistency in his approach. “I approach every game the same, I’m going in to win, and it takes a lot of hard work at practice, game plan, how we feel about it,” he said. “There’s a lot that goes into it.”

The Cardinals’ success in 2019 hinges in large part on how well Murray plays.

Will he come in and take the league by storm? Will he struggle? Will he have flashes of brilliance? Or will he flop?

All that will be the fun part of watching the Cardinals this season.
