There’s a group of Washington Redskins fans that took a deep sigh of relief on Thursday morning.
That group — the cluster of people who want to see Washington draft Heisman winning QB Kyler Murray — watched with glee as Murray measured in at 5’10 1/8″ at the NFL Combine.
His agent also recently claimed he weighs over 200 pounds as well.
Murray has often been admonished for his small stature, as he played most of his college ball in the range of 190 pounds. Many thought he would be measured at 5’9″ in the combine.
But he didn’t, so now he is drawing comparisons to Super Bowl winning QB Russell Wilson, despite being more than 20 pounds lighter.
In an age where shorter quarterbacks can find their niche in the league, led by Drew Brees and Wilson, there is a timeline where Murray has a successful NFL Career. You can predict that he will go to a team that will utilize his mobility and improvising prowess, carving out a run much like Wilson. On the other hand, there is a chance that he goes the way of Johnny Manziel, to say nothing about ‘Johnny Football’s’ off the field issues. Manziel is 6’0″, 210 pounds, and he was bounced from the league due to lack of ability — among other things — despite having an illustrious college career.
As a Washington fan who just wants to see a competent quarterback in the Nation’s Capital, Tuesday was a milestone day for your “Redskins should draft Kyler Murray” take.
It also could have been just another bullet point on a long list of reasons why Murray will struggle in the NFL. Only time will tell.
