Kyler Murray calls preseason debut performance ‘decent’

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Kyler Murray did not have a magical preseason debut. There was nothing wrong with it, though.

He was not very impressed.

“I thought it was decent,” he said at halftime.

He played in one drive and completed 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards. He looked sharp and in command.

The drive stalled, though, after a Maxx Williams holding penalty and a sack of Murray.

He didn’t get what he wanted.

“I wanted to go score, so my only mindset was go score,” he said. “We brought it out and unfortunately didn’t finish the job.”

He had a long field to start with, taking possession at the two-yard line after Jordan Hicks forced and recovered a fumble.

“When we got the strip, I was like, ‘Good!’ he said. “At the same time, I was like. ‘Of course, I get the ball at the two.'”

In all, it was a solid performance by one of the most intriguing players in the league this year.

“I thought it was smooth,” he said. “I was anxious to get out there, move around and throw it a little bit. I really tried to execute whatever Coach called, and I think we did that for the most part.”
