Kyler Murray announces he will dedicate himself to playing QB instead of baseball

Things might have just gotten a little more interesting for the Arizona Cardinals and the 2019 NFL draft. Kyler Murray, who won the Heisman Trophy for his play at quarterback with Oklahoma, has made his choice of sport. Already drafted in the first round of by the Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball, Murray announced his complete commitment to playing football.

This doesn’t appear to be something that will really affect the Cardinals, but they have the first pick in the draft and some project Murray could end up being the first player selected in the draft. Some believe the Cardinals could be the team to do that, considering some comments made by new head coach Kliff Kingsbury last October.

However, what is perhaps more likely is a team becoming interested in moving up to the first pick and making a trade with the Cardinals.

And if Murray doesn’t gain enough hype to be drafted in the first round, with the Cardinals selecting first in each of the first six rounds of the draft, that top pick in the second round might also be a trade chip for a team wanting to take him but unwilling to pay him a completely guaranteed contract that comes with first-round picks.

The Cardinals have already been very public in their support of Josh Rosen as their franchise quarterback of the future. The rumors are out there but they will certainly just be noise.

Murray’s decision will certainly lead to increased intrigue in the Cardinals and their first pick over the next two-plus months.
