Kyle Walker sends emotional farewell to former Man City captain Fernandinho

Kyle Walker has penned an emotional farewell message to his former Manchester City captain Fernandinho after the Brazilian left the Etihad this summer.

Fernandinho called time on a glittering nine-year spell at City this summer, and this week was announced as a new signing for his former club Athletico Paranaense, who he left in 2005. Walker is now City's oldest outfield player, and second oldest in the squad behind Scott Carson, and has taken to Instagram to wish his former captain well in the final chapter of his career back in Brazil.

Posting a collage of pictures of the pair together, Walker wrote: "Skipper it’s been a pleasure to share the field and learn from you. I wish you all the best with your new challenge."

When Fernandinho was announced at Paranaense on Monday on a two year contract, he said his plans were to end his career at the club where he started out.

He said: "Without a doubt, I am fulfilling a personal wish, a dream to wear the Athletico shirt again. Establish a brand that will end my career playing for just three clubs: two in Europe and one in Brazil.

"I'm very happy, I thank my family, which has always supported me in this decision. Not only my heart, but all of us ended up speaking louder at that moment. We had numerous proposals, from several different clubs, from Brazil and abroad. But the most sensible decision was to return home and try to deliver my best here at Athletico now."
