Kyle Walker reveals Man City motivation for the new season

Manchester City are using their Champions League disappointments to drive them into the new season, defender Kyle Walker has revealed.

City might have won six out of the last seven domestic trophies available in the last two years, but have crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter final stage for two years in a row.

On both occasions, City have been beaten by English opposition, and the club have made no secret of their desire to emulate rivals Liverpool and lift Europe's premier club trophy.

Pep Guardiola and his squad are in Hong Kong for the second leg of their pre-season tour, and right-back Walker has been discussing City's ambitions ahead of the new season.

Top of his list was winning the Champions League to complete the club's bulging trophy cabinet.

He told Sky Sports : "I feel for us, especially some of the lads in there, we're not getting any younger. I want to win the Champions League before I finish my career.

"I feel like I'm at the right club to do that. If we don't get as far as we should do it feels like we've underachieved in that.

"It's a learning curve, especially for me I need to pass on my experience for the youngster players coming through. Hopefully sooner rather than later we'll be lifting that one as well."

When asked about the impact Guardiola has had on City, Walker explained that the dominance the Blues have enjoyed in the last two seasons starts with their manager.

"He's incredible," Walker said. "He's the driving force behind us.

"Obviously we have to drive ourselves, it comes from the 11 players he puts onto the field but also the subs and back room staff. We're all one team and I think we wouldn't achieved what we've achieved in the two years without everyone being in it together."
