Kyle Walker recalls brilliant story which led to his £53m Manchester City transfer

Kyle Walker has revealed he benefited from a stroke of luck to get scouted when was a youngster.

Walker has become a fan favourite at Manchester City since his £53m transfer from Tottenham four years ago and he's won three Premier League titles, four League Cups and one FA Cup across his time spent at the Etihad - it seems there's more to come, too.

Impressively, Walker fought back from falling out of contention with Pep Guardiola this season to make the right-back position his own once again and it was no surprise to see the City boss give the 30-year-old a start in the Champions League final last month.

But where did it all start for Walker? The Blues star has revealed a brilliant anecdote from his days as a young boy to explain just that, recalling that he actually benefited from a stroke of luck to get scouted by his first club, Sheffield United.

What did you make of Walker's season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

"I slept at my friend's house and it was his brother, Akeem and Ismail - there wasn't any space in the car because his cousin was coming to pick him up and take him to a little coaching session that was happening in a park," Walker told SPORTbible.

"I said I would go home and wait for them to come back. Ten minutes later he knocked on the door and said that the cousin's sister didn't end up coming up - the dad didn't have to bring the little girl so there was a space for me.

"The rest is history. I went and trained and there was a scout from Sheffield United called Paul Archer who asked if I wanted to play for them. I never even played Sunday League football or anything.

"I went straight from estate football to the park at six or seven and then Sheffield United."
