Kyle Walker reacts to being dropped for Man City's win over Chelsea

Kyle Walker is hoping to return to the Manchester City starting line-up for their Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night.

Walker was left out of the side to face Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, with Pep Guardiola opting to play Joao Cancelo at right-back, with Fernandinho partnering John Stones at the heart of the City defence.

And Walker has warned his team-mates that game time is never guaranteed at the Etihad, with competition high for game time.

“I just think it’s the standard of the team, it’s so high in competition for places throughout the field,” Walker told Match of the Day 2.

“I was the unlucky one, I had to sit out yesterday, you’ve just got to take it on the chin and hopefully I’ll be in the team for the Champions League game.”

Manchester City came from behind to beat Chelsea, after goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez cancelled out N'Golo Kante’s opener.

And Walker also paid tribute to Mahrez for the character he showed upon his return to the team.

“Credit where credit is due, he’s had to sit on the sidelines for a few weeks," he said.

"I think that shows the character and the belief he has in himself to get the individual goal and get the winner.”
