Kyle Walker-Peters sends superb message to Harry Winks after his assist for Gareth Bale at Stoke

Harry Winks played a key role in Tottenham's 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Stoke City on Wednesday evening.

Named in the XI by Jose Mourinho having been in and out of the matchday squad in recent weeks, the midfielder took his chance with both hands in Staffordshire with a very good display.

Winks left the bet365 Stadium with the man of the match award and he came in for praise from many following his showing against the Championship side.

Not one who usually chips in with goals and assists due to his role in midfield, the 24-year-old teed up Gareth Bale for the opener with a brilliant ball into the box to pick out the Welshman.

Registering two assists for England on international duty in November, Winks' assist was his first for Tottenham since all the way back in 2017 in their win over Brighton.

Spurs fans clearly want to see more from the midfielder and Mourinho will be hoping he can get more out of him in an attacking sense between now and May.

Taking to social media after the victory as he uploaded a photo on Instagram, Southampton man Kyle Walker-Peters poked fun at his former teammate in the comments section.

After Winks had scored in November with a long-range effort against Ludogorets after trying to pick out Gareth Bale at the back post, Walker-Peters' comment was in reference to the England international's rare strike from near the halfway line in the Europa League.

"Glad you picked Bale out this time," quipped the former Tottenham man.

Winks did see the funny side of it by replying with three laughing emojis.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his midfield display after the win, Winks said: "Really pleased with my own performance. Personally it's been tough minutes-wise and to come into a game at this intensity when you haven't had many minutes is difficult.

"The boys were brilliant and it's a tough place to come but the boys pulled through it so I'm really pleased.

"We hope we can keep this up - it's such a difficult competition with so many good teams left in so it will be tough semi-final whoever we get but we're doing well it was another positive performance from us."
