Kyle Walker makes admission after Man City goalkeeping experience and explains why he was chosen

Kyle Walker has explained that he's learned that goalkeeping is harder than he thought after he was forced to become one himself in Man City's Champions League draw with Atalanta.

It looked like a run of the mill City victory was on the cards when Raheem Sterling put the Blues ahead after just six minutes and they went on to dominate the first-half.

City had plenty of chances to extend their lead and Gabriel Jesus definitely should have done when he hit a penalty wide of the post.

Regardless, City still looked in control going into half-time but it all changed when Ederson had to be withdrawn after picking up a 'minor injury' and was replaced by Claudio Bravo.

Atalanta came out fighting and found an equaliser with in five minutes of the restart as Mario Pasalic powered home a header but the real chaos was to come.

With 10 minutes remaining Bravo came storming out of his goal to close down Josip Ilicic but he tripped the attacker and was then shown a red card.

With two goalkeepers down Walker was called upon to go in between the sticks and he stepped up to the plate as he saved a free-kick with his first touch and managed to keep a clean sheet.

"I think it was a little bit of both," Walker said when asked by BT Sport whether he was chosen to go in goal or he volunteered.

"I try and sometimes wind up the keepers in training telling them to catch it and stuff but as I found tonight sometimes you have to take two touches.

"All jokes aside we came here to get a point or a victory, we knew it was going to be difficult because they play man-to-man, they're a good team and they're in the Champions League for a reason so to come away from here, with how we ended the game, with a draw is a good point and we'll take that on now."

Walker earned a lot of praise from his teammates after the game and Benjamin Mendy thanked him for his efforts.

"Yeah I think tonight was a very tough game, we know it before the game and how we fight until the end to not keep a score, I say again thank you Kyle," the Frenchman said.

"Because it's very not easy to take this responsibility to be a goalkeeper and save the free-kick and it's one game we're going to remember it for when we go forward in the cup."
