Kyle Walker explains what Cole Palmer must do next at Man City

Kyle Walker expressed his happiness for Manchester City teammate Cole Palmer but warned the youngster against getting carried away.

Palmer, 19, scored his first Champions League goal of what looks to be an extremely promising career in the 5-1 demolition job of Club Brugge, calmly netting from the outside of the box for the fourth goal of the evening.

His performance off the bench earned rave reviews from media and fans, while Pep Guardiola also had praise for him in his post-match interviews.

Walker was another to be delighted for Palmer, having helped him to acclimatise to life in the first-team squad. But the veteran - who also bagged a rare goal in the Champions League win - told the Wythenshawe teenager to forget what he has done and focus on training well for the remainder of this week in order to earn his place in the matchday squad for Saturday's game at Brighton.

Choose City's man of the match against Club Brugge:

“Cole has showed glimpses of what he can do, especially what he’s been doing for the last number of months when he’s been playing for the first team. He’s an exciting talent but he has to keep his feet on the ground," he said.

"It’s a step in the right direction for him, it’s a big night for him and he needs to enjoy it, but tomorrow he’s got training and he’s got to work hard and make sure he’s getting selected for the squad on Saturday.”
